Email Threads

Kantilever automatically links related emails to submissions, keeping all correspondence in one place.

How Threading Works

When a new email arrives, Kantilever determines whether it belongs to an existing submission or should create a new one.

AI Classification

The system uses AI to classify each email into one of four categories:
LabelAction
New SubmissionCreates a new submission
Existing SubmissionLinks to an existing submission
IrrelevantMarked as spam/marketing, no submission created
AmbiguousQueued for manual review

Thread Matching

For emails classified as replies, Kantilever identifies the correct submission using:
  1. Conversation ID - Email clients track conversation threads
  2. Subject Line - Normalized subject matching (ignoring Re:, Fwd:, etc.)
  3. Sender/Recipient - Matching email participants
  4. Attachment Fingerprints - Similar attachment patterns

Viewing Linked Emails

Open a submission and navigate to the Emails tab to see all linked messages:
  • Original submission email
  • Follow-up replies
  • Additional documents received
Each email shows sender, date, subject, and a preview.

Manual Triage

When the AI can’t confidently classify an email, it creates a triage review action item.

Reviewing Ambiguous Emails

  1. Go to your Action Items
  2. Find the triage review task
  3. View the email content and AI’s suggested classification
  4. Choose the correct action:
    • Link to an existing submission
    • Create a new submission
    • Mark as irrelevant

Correcting Mistakes

If an email was incorrectly linked:
  1. Open the submission
  2. Go to the Emails tab
  3. Find the incorrectly linked email
  4. Click to unlink or move to the correct submission
Corrections train the system to improve future classifications.

Email Sources

New emails on a submission trigger additional processing:
  • Documents are extracted from attachments
  • Data fields may be updated with new information
  • Activity timeline records the email receipt
